2. LTE (Long-Term
Evolution):
- LTE is a specific technology developed as an evolution of
3G to improve data rates and overall network performance.
- While LTE was initially branded as 4G by carriers, early
versions of LTE did not meet the strict ITU standards for true 4G. However,
they were faster than 3G, so it was marketed as 4G LTE.
- LTE-A (LTE-Advanced) is the improved version of LTE, which
meets the ITU’s 4G standards.
Key Differences:
- 4G is the generation, and LTE is one of the technologies
under the 4G umbrella.
- LTE itself doesn’t quite meet true 4G speed standards but
offers significant improvements over 3G.
- LTE-A is a version of LTE that does meet the ITU's 4G
criteria and delivers faster speeds.
In summary, LTE is a stepping stone towards true 4G. When
you see "4G LTE" on your device, it typically refers to the LTE
network, which is fast but not quite the same as the full 4G experience
outlined by the ITU.
